The pandemic has been hard on many local businesses. Owners remind people to shop small as they plan for the holidays.
Small businesses have struggled during the coronavirus pandemic but the owners hope holiday shopping will boost their sales.
“It’s been slow,” said Hannah Richard, who owns Eboni Blu, a jewelry company.
The architect integrates her trade in her earrings and necklace designs.
“Dallas has a lot of great architecture, and a lot of that is inspired in my jewelry,” she said.
Richard doesn’t have a storefront but sells her work at the Dallas Farmers Market and the Deep Ellum Outdoor Market. It’s where she finds the most success.
Even so, this year has been challenging, and Richard hopes people will support small businesses during the holiday season.
In Mansfield, Paisley Grace Boutique owner Linda Winfield is also encouraging people to shop small.
Winfield had the idea for her business six years ago and eventually opened a store and online shop.
The store was shuttered for six weeks at the state of the pandemic. In-person business dropped after reopening.
In order to adapt, Winfield and her employees are doing Facebook Live events to engage with customers.
“We had to learn new ways of how people were shopping. They weren’t going out and trying on clothes so we started these live sales,” said Heather Hunt, the marketing director at the Boutique.
Small Business Saturday is this week on Nov. 28.
